Bob,
First of all, I think it's different for different people. There are a lot
of people who are already at rock bottom, or close to it. They are people of
color, living in segregated communities. They are undocumented immigrants,
working hard to make enough money to support themselves and their families,
to send money home to poverty stricken relatives, while trying not to be
noticed and deported. They are people who have no homes, or whose homes are
so terrible, that they're barely liveable. They are people who live near oil
spills or whose water is contaminated by fracking. And they are responding
in various ways, some of which involve organizing and demonstrating, and
some of which involve just developing survival techniques. Other people at
higher income levels are feeling the pressure differently. There's a lot of
pressure on folks, stress, anxiety. The disarray of both parties in this
election year is a symptom of how our society is deteriorating and
corruption is increasing.

Hi Miriam,
I have been doing some serious thinking about this historically horrible
choice for president. While most of me wants trump to lose so that we can
keep the Supreme court from becoming a bastion of conservative ideology, I
keep wondering if we stupid Americans won't really see how bad things are
until we hit rock bottom. IT's sort of like an alcoholic or drug addict.
They won't seek treatmen until they hit rock bottom and we're not there yet.
To me, rock bottom would look more like the early 1930's when unemployment
was around 25 percent and we had much higher levels of poverty than we have
now.
Nobody wants to see such horror, but I am beginning to fear that, short of
such horror, we'll just continue droning along with the status quo. I'd feel
a bit more supportive of Clinton if I believed that she would keep her word
and support the party platform with actions as well as words, but I doubt we
can count on that.
Time for a drink!
