I hate to say this, but if it is esophageal cancer we probably will not be hearing from him again. I have known two people who had esophageal cancer and neither survived. Because of my acquaintance with those two people I learned that esophageal cancer has a very low survival rate.

It wasn't retinoblastoma (I'm quite familiar with it with friends that have had
it and passed on, etc). Bob's case is esophageal instead.

I only wish him a speedy recovery if possible. I do agree, he has been such a
great addition and his posts were always a joy to read! He had a great way with
words to share what he attempts to convey in various topics of discussion.

Jen,

Carl mentioned on this list that Bob was ill. I assume that his cancer was a
result of a retinal blastoma, the same condition that killed my husband and so
many other people whom I knew and have heard about. It's a malignant tumor
which is removed in infants or young children. Some people live for many years,
cancer free. Some people die at a very young age. In my husband's case, the
cancer returned when he was 44 and it killed him just before his 65th birthday.
Bob is a lovely, kind man. His participation on this list was a really
positive addition.

Miriam:

Bob has recently been diagnosed with cancer at least two months ago and was the
moderator of ACB-Chat for a number of years. He announced it on the ACB-Chat
list but don't recall if it was also announced here, as well.

Carl,

Did Bob stop moderating it? You said you'd heard that he was ill. Could that
have been the reason, that there was no one who wanted that responsibility?
What about the original ACB list? Does that still exist? Can people discuss
issues on that list or is it just for ACB related issues?

Last evening a notice was posted by Deb Lewis announcing the immediate closure
of the ACB Chat List.
No real explanation other than a rambling note telling us that the ACB could,
from time to time consolidates lists, and suggesting we go to the ACB web page
for other lists.  Too bad, since the chat list was at least discussing issues
that impact the lives of blind Americans.
