Blind Chess General Game Policies (draft): Below are some general game policies I am proposing for the Blind Chess discussion list. Please feel free to comment on anything or suggest additional items. General Rules: * Any policy can change without notice. * TD rulings are final. * Anything not covered is handled at the time. * Members may propose new policies. General Conduct * All games will be played by email. * don't annoy opponent with unwanted music or banter. * If music or banter bothers you, tell opponent first. Game Help * No computers or electronic games. * No human help or advice. * Books and previous games are fine. * This will be an honor system. Time Control * All tournaments have time controls. * Details of time control depend on tournament. * You should remind opponent if no move arrives after a day. * If victory by time is not declared within 3 days of violation you may lose claim. * Friendly games usually have no time control, unless agreed upon in advance. * Time violation is after time limit is exceeded not when reached. Game Records * Each player should keep a game record. * Format of record is not strict. * Minimum: give player names, tournament, time, moves and result. * use standard algebraic notation (SAN) for game moves. * Only one complete move per line (one White and one Black move). * Example: Smith-Jones Ladder Tournament Smith time 1/5 Jones time 0/5 1. e4 e5 2. 0-1 Game Record Errors: * don't change a bad move, send it back immediately marked "illegal" or "Ambiguous" move. * Move corrections may be suggested when the error seems obvious. * Two kinds of notation errors: 1) Two pieces can make same move (ambiguous move). 2) Actual move different from notation (typo). * For type 1 error go back to that move, but you must make that move. * For type 2 error you must live with it. * If illegal move is made you must go back when found. * Time is not reset when going back in a game. Initiating Games * White initiates the game. * The first player in a pairing is always white. Completing Game * Winner send in score and game record. * If draw white sends in score and game record. * The TD will always acknowledge the game score email. * If you don't hear back from TD after two days resend result. Publishing Ratings and tournament Standings * A simulation of the USCF Elo rating system will be used. * Player ratings published first and 16th of each month. * Tournament standings published first and 16th of each month. * If you don't play a game for a year you are dropped from active rating list. * Other reports or statistics are welcome, any ideas? * Only Blind Chess list games are scored or reported. * Friendly games count half towards rating. Friendly Tournaments: * Any member may organize a friendly tournament. * Friendly tournaments are set up by the players. * Friendly tournaments are welcome, but score as friendly games. * Players make up rules for friendly tournaments. * Friendly tournaments will be reported with other tournaments.
