That’s true, but the proofreader of a book I submitted just got it
returned the other day because those asterisks were missing. So apparently
we are supposed to put them in when the chapter begins in the middle of the
page.

The chapter title is an indicator in and of itself. That's what changing
the font size and bolding it is for.

I'm pretty sure I asked this before and I thought I'd added the answer to
my notes but I can't find it.
If the book has a multiple line space between the Chapter title and the
first line of the text ( also between the last line of the preceding text
and the chapter title am I correct in remembering that we were told we
needn't put asterisks there? (or sould we?)
