Now I'm confused. In fact I'm so confused, I just typed a typical scanno using
an l where I might have put an exclamation mark. <grin> I never put stars in
where chapter headings are involved, even if they are in the middles of pages
and have never received a note on this being an issue.

That’s true, but the proofreader of a book I submitted just got it returned
the other day because those asterisks were missing. So apparently we are
supposed to put them in when the chapter begins in the middle of the page.

The chapter title is an indicator in and of itself. That's what changing the
font size and bolding it is for.

I'm pretty sure I asked this before and I thought I'd added the answer to
my notes but I can't find it.
If the book has a multiple line space between the Chapter title and the
first line of the text ( also between the last line of the preceding text and
the chapter title am I correct in remembering that we were told we needn't put
asterisks there? (or sould we?)
