I'm not sure getting rid of ^p after or before a lower case letter is a good
idea if you do it automatically.

A section of text at the end of a page could end with a lowercase letter and
no punctuation if it is the middle of a sentence and then be followed by a
^p and a section of text that follows it could have a ^p and then start with
a lower case letter on the next page.

Very few books have pages that actually end at the end of a sentence or
paragraph. Most of the end in the middle of a sentence and then start again
in the middle of a sentence.
