Hi Evan, Occasionally, books end up on the check out page that shouldn't accidentally. This is, I'm almost certain is what happened with the book that Bob proofread. There is an occasional glitch where the web site, instead of putting a book into the approval queue where it belongs, dumps it onto the checkout page. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, well, essentially, a book gets proofread twice, once by an outsourcer and once by a volunteer afterward, because the web site, either because of human error, or because the site choked, put the already proofread book in the wrong place. It isn't supposed to happen that outsourced books end up on the checkout page, but it does happen occasionally. Fw: Status of the Bookshare book you validated Hi Bob, I confess to being a bit mystified by this, mainly because I don't see why a book from an outsourcer would be on the check out list at all. I didn't know they ever had been. I thought the check out list was for volunteer submissions only. Fw: Status of the Bookshare book you validated I got the following message from bookshare concerning a book I proofread: "Dear Bob, Thank you for your efforts to prepare a book for the Bookshare collection. We are contacting you because the book you proofread, The Road To Woodstock by Michael Lang , has not been added to Bookshare. We cannot add your book to the collection because: An excellent copy is already in the collection. Sorry! We encourage you to resubmit this book if you can fix the problem. Please contact volunteer@xxxxxxxxxxxxx if you need more information regarding your submission. We appreciate the time you spend contributing to Bookshare, and look forward to continuing to build the collection together. Sincerely, The Bookshare Team" The book was submitted by Daproim Africa, one of our outsourcers. The book I got from the checkout list was also from Daproim Africa, and was in fine shape. The only thing I remember doing to it, besides a couple of scanning/spelling errors, was to move the pictures to the back of the book to make it more readable. I regret the loss of time it took to verify that this book was in fine shape, and, frankly, I regret the loss of credits (I'd submit a financial statement but it would just depress both you and me). I guess all I'm saying is please be more careful bookshare. I'd hate to spend the rest of my life proofreading books that are already in the collection.
