Hi Kim.
In order to proceed you just proceed. Sounds like a snarky remark, but it
isn't. If your first scan is a failure, so what you will probably learn
something in the process.

Hi, Bob. yes, your explanation was helpful as well as educational. I have a
Canon LIDE90 scanner and am chicken about using it. The reason is I don't know
how print books are organized. Oh, just put it down to that scanning sounds
intimidating to me and I know I have no idea of what to do in order to proceed.
Regards, Kim. P.S.: Yeah, I'd also like to know what others have to say on the
subject. K.

  Hi Kim.
I, like you, grew up reading braille books with the title of the book on the
top of odd numbered pages and nothing on the even numbered pages. Thus, we
could believe that all books are written this way. Not true! I have learned a
lot from reading bookshare books.

Some books have the title of the page on odd numbered pages, and the author's
name on even numbered pages. Others have the story or chapter title on the even
numbered pages.

I've seen some books that have no running headers, but I'm not sure whether
the book was written that way, or the scannor, or proof reader, or stripper
made the book that way. Maybe some of our sighted colleagues can tell us of
other book styles they've encountered.

  Hope this helps.
  Bob

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a header the title of a book?
For example, in Braille books, I was accustomed to reading the title of the
book on every odd numbered page. Now one sees the book title on the prefatory
page where one gets the bibliographic information of the book and on the first
page of text, I.e., where the story or document begins. I don't know what print
books are like, but do you have the Book title on only the odd numbered pages
or on all pages? I was pretty much able to ignore the book title on the various
pages, though it tends to interrupt the reading just a bit because you have to
skip the title line. Regards, Kim.

Valerie, we are supposed to delete them, but be careful to leave the
page number.

As a sighted person, do you pay attention to them? I never do. smile.
Maybe if I were reading a book of short stories I'd use them to find a
particular story, but otherwise I just ignore them, I think those members who
listen to books don't have that opportunity if the headers are present. I don't
know how they affect Braille readers.

            Dear Bud;

I just noticed that you also are a ham radio operator. I am also in
my call
            sign is: N0HSJ
<br>I have a question probably as much for the list as for you, and
that was
talking about all headers have been deleted. Do you mean at the top
of the
page were sometimes it has the title and/or the name of the
chapter? I have
not been deleting these, as I think they provide visual cues for
sighted
readers, but if I should be deleting them, I will start with my
next book.
Or, is it okay to do it whichever way and just make a note in the
            submissions?

Thanks as always for everyone's help!
