Yes, you have interpreted correctly. Valerie advised me to put the A*R in
parentheses to make it even more clear that the R/12 is not a fraction,
rather it is division of A*R. I think you have all answered my question very
well. Basically, do not put spaces around the *, but do put spaces around
the =.
(A*R)/12 = w

Thanks a lot!

HI Doug,

If I'm interpreting your equation correctly, it looks fine to me as is. Is
it to be interpreted verbally as:
A times r over (divided by) Twelve equals W

If that is the intended verbalization, I think it's perfect as you have it.

Just my opinion.

Mayrie

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] formatting mathematical formulas

I would like to know what is the correct way to format mathematical
formulas. Particular, should you leave a space before and after the * in
multiplication, and also should you have a space for an after an = ?

I don't know how these come out in braille readers and screen readers.

A*R/12 = w

How would you format the above equation?

Thanks -- Doug
