Hi List.
I was browsing the plustec website and did see the Optic book a300, don't think I'll ever have the privilege of owning one though.

Well, actually (devilish grin here), Plustek makes a large format scanner, the OpticBook A300, but you need a
cool $1,500 for the privilege of scanning 12x17 area. Be ready, though, it comes in at a "svelte"
24.53” x 15.75” x 5.24”
  Wink.

Not sure it will ever make my Christmas wish list. I keep praying for a Mac
driver or Mac native book edge scanner...

Hy Mayrie,

Aw, oh well... it was worth asking! Guess I'll have to pull out my old
Epson for those, then. *grin* Thanks for letting me know!

Warmest,
Kim

Hi Kim,

No, the scanning surface is about 8.5 by 11 inches. Sorry!

Hi Mayrie,

Thanks for sharing about these! I always hate pressing down my books, as
I
fear that one day I'm going to inadvertently damage a spine, which would
just be sacrilege to me. *smile* I may have to save up and get one of
these! Are the scanning surfaces large enough to do the coffee table
sized
books, as well, just out of curiosity?

Thanks much!

Warmest,
Kim L

Hi Jackie,

The OpticBook scanners are the only scanners that allow you to scan
without pressing the book down onto the scanner. One edge of the
scannerbed/glass, comes to the edge of the scanner itself, so that you
lay a book on the glass with the edge of the scanner in the gutter or
crack in the center of the book. This removes the need to press a
book down on a flatbed scanner to make pages scan clearly without junk
characters on the margins of pages closest to the gutter. The
OpticBooks can be had for around $250.

That wasn't a very good description of scanning with what they call a
"book edge". Hopefully you get the idea.

  Mayrie

  Hi,
I'm just curious, but what is the difference between an optic book and
say a cannon? Also, how much does the optic book cost?
Thanks,
Jackie

Happy scanning!

Hi Mayrie,

I just wanted to let you know that I have had my Optic Book 3800 for
a week, and I am in love! I have always cringed at scanning books
that didn't fit crosswise on the scanning bed, because they had to be
folded back, and the edges of the pages were always pretty scrambled.
Now I can hang one side of the book off the scanner, then flip the
book
and hang the other side off.
How have I lived this long without this scanner?!

Thanks for the recommendation.

  Sandi

Hi Cindy,

Yes, this notice means that the publisher just brought on board with
Bookshare will be donating books now and is on the list of publishers
not to scan if you are bothered by potentially having your books
  replaced.

Wonderful. Does this mean that they are not safe to scan because
they'll be in the collection from the publisher?
