You're right, Larry. The one I found was $750, I think. I toyed with the idea of the one Valerie talked about--but that much money for a scanner, when the one for $250 will do what I need just seemed wrong!

And of course you're right that the 3800 does a beautiful job of two-page scans with the smaller books. I'm just pleased to finally have a scanner that does both larger and smaller books well.

For those who wonder, the Optic Book 3800 scans faster than Canon or Epson--in fact I can make it scan faster than Kurzweil will recognize. But speed certainly isn't everything. My former scanner was an HP all in one--and it was quieter than the Optic Book. I just love not having to press down heavily with my arthritic fingers to get all the words! Or folding books and magazines back over themselves to scan one page at a time. And even after 21 years of scanning at various speeds and with various levels of success, I'm still in awe of being able to read print books!

Don't think I'll run out and buy that though I have been lusting after the 4800 but don't think that's going to happen either. I think it runs $700 or so.

Well, actually (devilish grin here), Plustek makes a large format scanner, the OpticBook A300, but you need a cool $1,500 for the privilege of scanning 12x17 area. Be ready, though, it comes in at a "svelte" 24.53” x 15.75” x 5.24”
Wink.

Not sure it will ever make my Christmas wish list. I keep praying for a Mac driver or Mac native book edge scanner...
Valerie

Hy Mayrie,

Aw, oh well... it was worth asking! Guess I'll have to pull out my old
Epson for those, then. *grin* Thanks for letting me know!

Warmest,
