That's really odd. It's working fine for me, though I haven't downloaded a book in a while. Let me try it now... No, I'm not having any problems. I clicked the download button, tried to go to download preferences, and everything is working fine. I've not once been redirected to my history. You may want to contact Bookshare about that.
