You can use tab Replace. If you hit control-h, the Find and Replace menu comes up. Put the text you want to get rid of in the Find window, leave the Replace window blank. Then tab over until you hear JAWS say 'tab replace'. When you hit enter on it, Word starts looking for the text you entered in the Find window. When it finds it, JAWS speaks the line of text that contains the text you told Word to look for. If you want to get rid of it, you have to tab twice until JAWS says 'replace', then hit enter. After you do that, Word again looks for the text and when it comes up, you have to go through the same three-keystroke routine to get rid of it. (WordPerfect was easier. All you had to do was hit 'y' for Yes, or 'n' for No. Much faster.) Anyhow, if you don't want to get rid of the text, say it is a part of the text of the book, not a header, then just hit enter, and it will be left alone. I have gotten rid of hundreds of headers this way. Of course, the ones that didn't come out quite right will have to be got rid of by hand, but you will probably have gotten rid of the majority this way. JAWS speaks the line of text that contains the text you are looking for, so you can make sure that you are not eliminating text that you shouldn't.

I tried using alt-r for replace to do this kind of repetetive thing with one keystroke combo instead of three, but it didn't work for some reason. Still, this is much faster than deleting each one by hand.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Quantity deleting

Dear Volunteer Friends,

If a book has the title on all even numbered pages and the chapter name on the odd pages, is there a way to delete all of each different title with one set of commands? I can't leave them as they are for the stripper to remove because they appear randomly sometimes above the page number and sometimes under it. Getting rid of them one by one is OK, but I thought I'd check.

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm, Thanks in advance without the exclamation mark is 15 characters so does that mean it equals TIA X 5?

Always with love,

Lissi
