Hi,

Thanks for all the advice.

I did as you suggested, and plugged the Pacmate into the wall to see if it
was a power problem. It shouldn't have been, as it was fully charged when I
left the house yesterday morning. No luck. It sits there dead as a
doornail.

So I ensured that everything was detached, from the memory card to the
Braille display.

I think I found the reset button. To the left of the center left pad are
actually two tiny little holes. The uppermost of these two holes had
something inside it that gave a little when I used a tiny screwdriver to
press it.

I tried pressing it for just a second or two, and then I tried holding it
down, all to no avail. The Pacmate remains obstinately dead.

So, I wonder if I found the right hole? Anything else to try?

Of course, this morning I will call Freedom Scientific, and if they can't
help me, I imagine I'll send it in for repairs. I'll miss it. Although I
only use it as a reading machine and occasionally as a notetaker, I do use
it very frequently.

Thanks for all the help.

Laura, 1 other thing. Remove all peripherals from your packmate, e.g., USB
drives, sticks, sd cards, any hardware plugged in such as your braille
display. plug in the AC adapter, then try turning it on, e.g., make certain
this is not a power problem. If u know your battery's charged & u suspect
an AC adapter problem, try it the other way round.
That cold reset's gonna kill everything, I'm sure u already know that, let's
try those measures b4 resorting to the "big weeny".
