[bksvol-discuss] OT:googling--and a Let's Pretend personal story

Well, Sue, it's mostly trial and error what to put
into google--and not everything can be found. I tried
your Patricia Ryan with a variety of words in the
string to no avail. Then one of the sites suggested I
try google books. Instead I went to amazon and found
this title: Let's Pretend and the Golden Age of
radio, by Norman Corwin. It may have information on
her. The book description is this:"This new, improved
and expanded biography of everyone's favorite radio
show, Let's Pretend, now contains a complete log of
the series by radio historians Martin Grams, Jr. and
Derek Teague.
About the Author
Arthur Anderson, an actor for 69 years, started
playing character roles for Nila Mack on Let's Pretend
at age 13, and was on it almost every week (with time
out for military service) until the program's demise.
He played the boy Lucius in Orson Welles' spectacular
Broadway production of Julius Caesar, and was then in
Welles' Mercury Theatre on the Air on CBS. He was most
recently the voice of the nasty farmer Eustace in the
TV cartoon series Courage, the Cowardly Dog, but he's
most proud of his 29 years as the original voice of
the Lucky Charms (cereal) Leprechaun. "

I just re-read your post and you say she was also on
television. I did put Let's Pretend into IMDB.com;
there were two movies but neither was the radio show.
But if you know what televsion show she might have
been on, you can put that into IMDB and then click on
her name in the cast. There might be a brief biography
there.

When I was a child I listened to the show every week.
Somewhere betwee 4th and 6th grades, when I was living
in New York, our brownie or Girl Scout troop went to
see a taping of the show. I was *so* disappointed. I
expected to see a play with sets, costumes, etc.
Instead, there was a bare stage and actors stepping up
to the microphone to read their parts! My first
disillusionment. smile
