I can't speak for everyone, but I used to have the print alphabet, and
learned at least the capital letters. I know the lowercase as well, but
they're a bit more confusing. No, numbers are not the same in Braille. It
gets a bit complicated, but numbers are either determined by there position
in the Braille cell, or by a special sign, which means that what immediately
follows is a number.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] OT: children and learning

helley,

I went to the site. Those products are neat--but the
blocks are for colors and textures. And one set of
blocks, the plexiglass ones, seem to be for childen
with vision--is that for children with limited vision?

However, there was a place for people to send in
suggestions for products. Do blind children have to
learn the alphabet or do they go right to learning the
Braille code? I assume (probably wrongly) that numbers
are numbers--are numbers different in Braille or are
raised numbers used?

The Rubric cube takes a lot of trial and error for
everyone, but that's where the fun lies. When you say
it's Brailled and has colors, do you mean that the
names of the colors are in Braille? Great idea.

With all the products there are now, and with what
I've learned, I think if I were just starting out in
my life I'd take the course of study to become a
teacher of Visibly Impaired. To see young children
learn things and open up and develop is wonderful.

Cindy
