You can reject for reasons such as the scanner wasn't at home, so to speak,
when they scanned the book--lots of scannos, lots of gibberish words suggesting
that the book wasn't being held flat at the time of scanning or that the
brightness wasn't set properly. I've seen books where the accuracy was
somewhere around the low 98s, but usually 99 and above is much more typical.
Of course the type of material changes things. I had one hardback and one
paperback which just wouldn't scan well at all no matter what I did. Someone
else here figured out a way to get good results with one and I Finally had an
idea which worked with the other.

As Judy S. pointed out, the proofreader only had the book checked out for 6
minutes. I suspect she looked at the file and decided she did not want to proof
it, for whatever reason, and did not understand that she should “release” the
book rather than “check in.” A person who is accustomed to the simple “check
in” of a library book might not realize the difference.
Maybe the Bookshare site needs to add some clarification, especially for new
proofers, as to the meaning of the several choices at check in. For example, I
have never known what situation would entitle me to “reject” a file.

The wording indicates to me that there are so many problems that it does
not appear to have been proofread. Might there have been a working copy and a
raw downloaded copy and the wrong one was checked in? I don't know, but it
looks like it is being requested that the entire proofreading be done again
from start to finish.

To the Proofreader: This book needs to be proofread. This entails going
through the book page by page, reading it and checking for "scannos" such as
the word I incorrectly having scanned as the numeral 1, duplicate pages, words
broken across pages, paragraphs between speakers that weren't correctly
separated by the OCR program, and generally cleaning up the scan. If you have
questions, please contact volunteer@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thank you,
