Monica, It's hard to say without actually seeing the file, but it sounds like this might be one of those rare times where converting the book to a TXT file then back to RTF might be appropriate. Converting to TXT should strip all of the pictures and tables, but it would have the disadvantage of stripping text attributes as well. It will also strip page breaks if you use Word for the conversion. If the book is only 150 pages, then it might be easier to convert to TXT then fix any problems that occur due to the conversion. Anyway, it won't hurt to convert it to see which is more difficult to clean up. BTW, I don't know how the Bookshare tools will handle the pictures. They may strip them for you, but then again they may make a bigger mess. I do know from a document I read that Bookshare states that they do not support pictures. Whether this means they'll disregard pictures which happen to be included in the uploaded file is the question. This book has approximately 150 pages. The text itself is well-scanned and almost flawless. It has scads of pictures, text boxes, section breaks, smart tags, and something called unformed tables. When I removed the section breaks, the book became 450 pages. I used to think that I knew how to do farily advanced word processing. This book is beyond my ability to cope though without some guidance. Any advice on how to remove the pictures? There are quite a few of them. Additionally, how do I specify the proper quote character in the search and replace boxes? I saw on Jake's site that I should convert the character 147 and 148 to a general character 34. However, the site doesn't tell me how to actually type these special characters. Thanks for any help you can give.
