Hi Monica, The pictures are probably the problen. There are several ways
to attack the pictures. In the scanner you usually can turn them off so the
scanner will ignore them, well I think you can. Otherwise select and
delete. Word will usually say picture selected. To change section breaks
to page breaks in Word, go to "find and Replace", control h, for the the
find enter a carrot, "shifted 6, followed with a lower case b. Replace with
a carrot, lower case m. If you get too many pages other types of section
breaks as well as the regular ones are being placed into the O C R result.
If that turns out to be the case you will have to do it manually, that page
by page. I'm not sure how to handle the text boxes, Carrie or Gerald may

Hi, Tom. This book has approximately 150 pages. The text itself is well-scanned and almost flawless. It has scads of pictures, text boxes, section breaks, smart tags, and something called unformed tables. When I removed the section breaks, the book became 450 pages. I used to think that I knew how to do farily advanced word processing. This book is beyond my ability to cope though without some guidance. Any advice on how to remove the pictures? There are quite a few of them. Additionally, how do I specify the proper quote character in the search and replace boxes? I saw on Jake's site that I should convert the character 147 and 148 to a general character 34. However, the site doesn't tell me how to actually type these special characters. Thanks for any help you can give.
