If I'm not mistaken, even if it's not a translation issue, but if the copyright was renewed for whatever reason, you always use the latest copyright date, so in your case, that would be 1997. I'm cleaning up a scan of a book that has two copyright dates. It was first published in Dutch with a copyright date of 1995 held by the publisher. The English translation, the one I've scanned has a copyright date of 1997 held by the publisher who did the translation.
