Kim,After all that good advice people gave you, I have a simple question. I thought Baen books are available as txt and rtf as well as html, yes, no? If so, they may still be a file for each chapter, but putting all in one file would be at worst a bunch of cut and pastes.
I'll admit I haven't looked at Baen books for a while. Misha Kim Friedman wrote:
Hi, Miss Jackie, well, I'll tell you, the first thing I did was to unzip the file, now that's one thing I do know how to do. I guess it's knowing what to do after the darned thing is unzipped. These appear to be separate files, and what I want to do is somehow inform these little beasties "you all belong to this one entity, namely a book. When I extracted the zip folder, what I did was to use alt+f to get into the file menu and hit A for extract all which was accomplished. I'm going back over the message you sent me to see if I can understand what you told me to do. If not, I'll write back. Thanks much for writing. Or geek. Or...? Looks like the book is available in a .zip format. Therefore, extract the book to it's own directory by pressing applications key or shift f10 on the .zip file & choosing extract all, choose/create a directory, then open each file in internet explorer, press alt f, then a for save as, press alt t for files of type, type t to choose text, shift tab to the filename, make sure the extension is .txt, & that an appropriate filename has been filled in. Sounds a whole lot more complex than it is. On 10/30/09, Kim Friedman <kimfri11@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:Hi, I have a question and I'm thinking you computer nerds might be able to help me. Here's the story: I downloaded a collection of stories by Mercedes Lackey called Fiddler Fair from webscriptions.net which is affiliated with Baen books. When I downloaded the book, I chose to do it in HTML format because I think my BrailleNote mPower can deal with stuff in that format or at least I think it can. The problem is that when I enter the book, there are a lot of files, each story being in its own file and there's a connection to Internet Explorer in order for me to read them. What I'm wondering is if there's a way to convert the book to plain text so I can select those parts the BrailleNote will recognize, and do either a copy-and-paste or a cut-and-paste job on it. I have a friend who tells me not to bother, but just read the thing on the computer. Any advice? Keep in mind that I know nothing about converting texts into various formats, so I don't know how to go about it. Also, is there some computer program I need to get that will allow me to convert files and I hope thisprogram will be easy to use and very accessible.
