Tony,
If the book happened to have been scanned with Fine Reader that would
explain what's going on. Fine reader likes to use a certain type of section
break to represent page breaks. Word knows about them and respects them.
Kurzweil doesn't know about them and won't show them, but the good news is
that Kurzweil doesn't eat these section breaks. So if this is the case, then
even if you edit in Kurzweil the original section breaks will still be
intact, and if you look at the file in Word you'll still be able to see
them.
