For the first time this year, when I stepped out the back door this morning,
the outside air was warmer than the inside air and I could hear a few tree
frogs calling from a small stand water in the barn lot. Walking through the
woods after my routine morning cattle check, I flushed a Woodcock. Then flushed
probably the same Woodcock further along the trail. I’ve seen these birds many
times but I can’t recollect ever seeing one before it flies up from the ground
just a few feet from wherever I am. They’ll be so close, it’s easy to get a
good look at them in flight, but with my equipment, impossible to record them.
