We arrived at 4:50 pm cst and by 5:00 we had nine short ears. In the next 45 minutes we saw an additional 3 owls for a total of 12 this evening. It is hard to not double count but I feel good with these numbers we have been posting. We saw a similar number of Harriers. The owls have a tendency this year to perch in the tip top of trees, sometimes two in a tree. Tonight first with binocs and then with our 88 mm spotting scope we observed two coyotes from 2/3 of a mile away that were the size of wolfs. An update on the Daytona Beach eagle nest at Centennial Park which we reported on in Dec. The nest had 3 chicks born the second week of Dec. ALL THREE made it!!!! They are the size of adults now and are very active. One is expected to fly anyday. The story was in the Daytona Beach paper 10 days ago and large crowds have been observing the eagles and in fact barrier tape has been put up to keep the watchers at bay. A professional video maker for Discovery has been filming long hours each day for a week.
