Roseanna Denton and I covered the Green River Lake portion of the circle. Yesterday was certainly a day of changing moods ... cloudy and warm in the morning; downright warm and windy after that, followed by a relatively brief thunderstorm with pea-sized hail that covered the ground, then getting windier and colder, first with sun, then with thickening clouds before day's end. The lake, itself was about as devoid of waterfowl as we've ever seen it in winter, although we did find a few Common Loons and Horned Grebes along with a lone drake Greater Scaup. Most of the count's waterfowl will come from the Campbellsville City Lake, where a nice variety of divers was present including a couple more Greater Scaup. The Canada Geese had two nice little Cacklers with them there, too. Landbird highlights for our party were a Blue-headed Vireo (a second winter record) near the dam and a flock of at least SIXTY Purple Finches at the state park campground eating ash seeds. Eagles were down with only two seen. bpb, Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
