I went down to the fossil beds and was watching the same peeps Tom was seeing from the observation deck and wanted to clarify that 2 were Least Sandpipers, 1 was a pretty good candidate for a western being very pale below and with an excceedingly long bill, and the other one was a bird that may have been a long billed Semipalmated/ short-billed Western Sandpiper, that was equally pale. Earlier that day I briefly saw from a great distance in poor light a yellowlegs sp.. I also saw a Swamp Sparrow, a Northern Waterthrush and heard a Marsh Wren 30 yards out below the disintegrating wooden staircase, if that is indeed Kentucky territory.
