On Thursday morning I walked out in my backyard and saw a bird I have been waiting to detect on the property, that oddly enough I had not seen until now; a young male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. I find it strange that the first one for my backyard should be my first of the season. On Saturday morning, Dave Stewart and myself assisted Gerald Heath in leading a beginning birders trip for the nature center at Cave Hill and had a few good birds for that location, including a very cooperative Philadelphia Vireo that sat motionless above us for a few minutes. Additional birds detected not on the checklist below were Rock Dove, Turkey Vulture, Eastern Phoebe, Brown Thrasher, Song Sparrow and House Finch. In addition to that, the Spotted sandpiper might be a typo, because i don't remember us seeing that one.
