A great Christmas bird Count with thanks to all 23 participants. Also special
thanks to carl Mowery, who ran the count for a number of years and passed away
recently. LBL's CBC turned 69 this year.
Hope you all get a chance to come down and enjoy some birding at LBL

Subject: Final CBC Tally
Hi Everyone!
I hope you all have had a great holiday since we last saw each other! Attached
are the final tallies after compiling all data from all our teams. A couple
cool species of note would be the Golden Eagle and Glaucous Gull, which we are
filling out rare bird reports for! Depending on if the information we provide
about them is sufficient, Audubon will decide whether to keep them in the
"official" count record. Another one which you are probably very aware of is
the oodles of snow geese we saw!
The only species not listed in the attached document (excel was a little
uncooperative, as you can see by the fact it is 6 pages instead of the 3 it
needed) is the sandhill cranes spotted during count week (seen in the circle
within the week of the bird count, but not allowed to be tallied). These will
be reported to Audubon, just not tallied. That brings us to a total of 87
species spotted this year, with 11,476 individuals! This species count IS
relatively low for our average (the LBL circle can expect to see anywhere
between 80-100 species), but not necessarily surprising considering how mild
the weather has been!
As always, this could not happen without you. Thank you so very much for your
time and effort in contributing to the world's bird science!
Happy New Year, everyone!
Sincerely,
