Today was the first day I have heard a Grasshopper Sparrow singing this year. I was helping to top tobacco on my brother's farm and the Grasshopper Sparrow was perched & singing on a weed in a 15 foot wide grassy strip used as a lane between the tobacco and a soybean field. Both fields were meadow last year but now, except for the narrow grassy strip, the nearest meadow is acres away.
