While cutting hay today, a Grasshopper Sparrow flushed out of the uncut grass and began running ahead of me along the narrow clear strip where the mower guard had pulled the hay mowed on the previous round away from the standing hay. It just kept running along like that and wouldn't get on out of the way. I stopped the tractor and tried to chase it over into the already cut hay. It just kept running in that same strip so I ran it down and caught it. It didn't seem to be hurt. I was admiring the suprisingly bright yellow above its eyes and on its shoulders when it fluttered loose and landed in a spot that was out of the way of the tractor. I didn't think I had any Grasshopper Sparrows this year. I have not heard any singing.
