Sylvia, JB and I spotted two bluebirds at one of their previously inhabited
areas just this afternoon in Northern Franklin County. I was so relieved to see
them. The other day I heard at least one down there, but did not see it. I,
too, have not found a way to feed them. I tried meal worms once and that was a
bust. Recently, I started to put out a seed/nut/raisin and meal worm cylinder
in hopes of attracting them to that. While, I’ve seen red-breasted nuthatches,
yellow-bellied sapsuckers and Carolina wrens as well as myriad other species,
I’ve not seen a bluebird. I was also hoping that they might be interested in
the bark butter. They’re not always up here on our ridge where I feed the
birds, though. They seem to prefer the bottomland near the base of our driveway
and the adjacent field, although we did have a pair successfully fledge some
young in our front yard birdhouse once upon a time. I hope the species can
rebound.

have never been able to find a way to feed them. Starlings take over the
suet feeders & they don’t use the regular feeder. They come to the heated
birdbath, though.
