Mike, Lucky find. I think I met you at the Snowy Owl site in Beckley, WV. Weren’t you the one who took those great photos using a scope? Cecelia Mathis Sparta, NC From: Michael Sanders Sent: Sunday, March 29, 2015 8:37 PM To: Buchanan County Birdclub Subject: [bcbirdclub] Unusual Yard Bird I took this photo in my back yard on 08-08-2010 in the City of Bristol, VA, I identified it as a Juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron , and I still feel confident that that is what it is. The tiny white spots and thin white edges in the wings and the narrow distinct streaks in the neck were my primary identifying marks. But this fellow and the Black-crowned can be confused so I if I am off base please let me know as this was my lifer yellow-crowned and my only one to date, my life list may shrink if I am mistaken. Anyway this was an unusual yard bird due to the fact the Yellow-crown’s nesting range only extends to roughly Kingsport and Elizabethton, TN and possibly Bristol, TN according to current records, at least thats the current information I have. Cool bird none the less.. P.S Sorry about the poor image quality I was using a Canon on the recommendation of a friend ;)……lol Mike Sanders Bristol, VA
