On Tuesday, Tom and Laverne Hunter, Bob and Jean Montgomery, Roger Mayhorn and I hiked Guesses Fork in Hurley. Our target species for the day, a Cerulean Warbler, was the first species recorded as we began our walk along the mountaintop. The bird was very cooperative as he sang, ate, and posed for us among the branches of trees along both sides of the trail. We also had great looks at Yellow-breasted Chat, Hooded Warbler, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Scarlet Tanager, Cedar Waxwing, Killdeer, and Indigo Bunting. Other species of note included a White-eyed Vireo, which Laverne identified after hearing just one note quite a distance away, two Yellow-throated Vireos, and a Common Raven. Roger kept a complete list of species. It was a great day of birding with good birds and good friends. Michelle Talbott
