i don't know about the KTX extensions. But in the openGL driver of 3ds max
there's an option called 'dual planes'.
But it usually turned off, as only high end card do support this properly
(refresh/redraw proplems). At least it was so in the past - i will turn it
now on and see,
how it's going on now.

But in general it's true, the viewport does only redraw affected regions in
general. Sometimes I'Ve to move the viewport for a refresh. Before r5 i
pressed '1'
for redraw, but now it's some other key ....

I am just creating sheres to test if all viewports are at the same speed ...
man mit a ti 4600 i've to create a lot of sphere ... hm 120.000 poly at the
moment ...
... interesting - wireframe is much slower than shaded (without textures).
It's really just redrawing a little region ...
hm 183 k ... hard to saw, but it looks like that max is redrawing all at the
same speed.
There's a little latency ... wich differes more from one viewport to another
thatn from active to non-active. Maybe there's a priorisation for the active
one, but hard to see.

Well if performance can be imporved by first drawing the active one and then
the others, then put it in as option ;P
I mean there's are reasons why all viewport must be draw at the same time
for certain situations like modelling in CAD style. When you have plans (as
textures)
in the background and you are working with several viewports at the same
time, to check if it's aligning etc.
