I have often camped there. But it is primitive-- no water, no facilities (other than a conventient wash!). As for the July 4 crowds, I don't know. It is not near anything exciting like a lake or river, so I doubt if July 4th revelers will use the area. It is pretty bleak as far as entertainment goes (except, of course, for the night skies). I am pondering going up this weekend (maybe Thursday through Saturday), but will not decide until I get a better read on the weather. Right now, the NWS is forecasting about 25% sky cover all three nights, which means 75% open skies, but I don't know yet whether that means cumulus clouds with clear holes, or general haze over the entire sky. The satellite loops should clarify that by tomorrow. Sounds cooler than Picket Post or Antennaes. Coming from the east valley, it will be about a two hour drive, so I would prefer to sleep over. I know the area, but have never been down the road to the site. So, I am wondering the following. Is camping permitted in the area ? Just car camping for me. Will it be a zoo with non astronomy campers for the July 4th weekend ? Are others planning to be there ? Thanks in advance for any comments or recommendations, Brad Geisler ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jack Jones" <telescoper@xxxxxxx> To: <az-observing@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, June 27, 2011 11:12 PM Subject: [AZ-Observing] Re: The Street Formerly Known as Cherry Road It's also still Exit 278!
