I don't know who Pickering is or if he is still alive. My whole thrust was to learn by questioning. As a result of this I learned, as Thad has pointed out, that the scale has some serious limitations. Also, when the third ring is brighter than the second, it should raise questions in anyone's mind who has a little knowledge of this sort of thing, of which I have very little knowledge of, but enough to be able to ask some questions.
