If anybody is getting a big telescope for Christmas (a couple of days
early), and wants to try again, I happened upon an occultation in SkyMap of
TYC 1310-2402-1, a mag 10.4 star, by Saturn on 12/23/02 beginning at about
11pm and ending about 2:15am on Christmas Eve Day. Saturn will be around 60
deg alt but a nearly full moon will probably make it real tough to spot the
star. Don't know how often this sort of thing happens. There is no way to
search for these events in SkyMap except manually. Would be nice if you
could search for a specified minimum separation between a planet and any
star over a specified magnitude, during hours of darkness, with no moon,
planet above specified alt, etc :o)
