"Comfort and Convenience"
Counselor Cailin Danaan

Cailin, before she had even started her first shift, made sure to
send a general memo to the entire crew. In it, she introduced herself and let
them know that they were each free to come to her any time or to contact her
if they wanted to set up an appointment. She had never been like most
Starfleet trained counselors, in that she didn't immediately set up an
appointment
with each and every crew member. She liked to let them come to her on their
own, when it was comfortable and convenient for them.
So far she had not had many come to talk, mostly the younger, junior
crew. No one on the senior staff had come to her yet. Give it time, Cailin,
she told herself.
One of the interesting things she'd shared with Jack, whom she was
continuing to communicate with, was the amazing number of pregnancies on
board. Almost everyone she had spoken to had mentioned the fact that there
were
three or four women on board who had gotten pregnant around the same time. A
couple of them were carrying multiples. The Tuathan couldn't imagine being
pregnant with more than one child.
Of course, now that she and Jack were friends again, and there was
the possibility of more between them, she'd begun to dream of having at least
one--with him. Of late, she'd had several in which one scene stood out
clearly: she and Jack were sitting together on a sofa. A child, a girl,
crawled up
to them, pulling herself to a standing position using Jack's leg. He would
then pick her up, as he and Cailin laughed, and the two of them would hug the
child, then kiss.
Shaking her head, Cailin brought herself out of the reverie. They
were about to make first contact with a new species, and she had to be ready
in
case she was called upon.
