"Confusion and Dissolution"
By Jr. Lt. Elissabeth C. Marksbury

She was trapped inside her mind. And for the first time, her mind wasn't
making any sense.

She was standing at a shuttle window, waving to nothingness as she left home
for training.

"Welcome to the Tempest, Lt. Cate," the captain said, shaking her hand. "I'm
sure you will be most pleased and a valuable member of our crew."

And then a red headed, smiling man asked, "So have you ever heard of Patrick
O'Brian?"

Lissi was watching someone else's life flash in important moments, but oddly,
she was seeing it through their eyes. And it all happened so very fast.

Then there were moments from her childhood.

She saw the Commodore teaching her the first martial arts movements.

She was graduating Starfleet.

She was joining Intel and meeting Admiral Pew.

They were fond memories. But that's when all hell broke loose.

Suddenly, the Commodore's face melted away into nothingness.

Lissi screamed.

"Lt. Cate!" someone barked. "Did you hear those orders!? MOVE!! We are to
destroy the Avalon!"

Then the woman. The woman who hit her with metal and tied her up.

She was now in some man's arms, kissing him and feeling nothing but affection.
"Lyryn," he whispered.

Lyryn?

There was a doctor.

And the cycle began again. Scenes from her childhood on Earth faded into these
grotesque nightmares of a life she never lived. Through it all was fog, yet
the emotions were crystal clear. Light streaked by like she herself was
traveling at warp speed as she lived from one vision to the next.

As complex as wonderful as the human brain is, Lissi's just couldn't handle it.

It shut down.

Time to reboot.

Comatose.

"Ohmygod!" Skyler shouted as Lissi went completely limp in her arms, "She's
bleeding. Her nose is bleeding! Do something, dammit!"
