Name: Kaera Ashayu Age: 21 Race: Cardassian Height: 5'5" Build: medium Hair: dark, waist-length, worn in a single braid down her back most of the time Eyes: indeterminately dark Family: missing, presumed deceased Background: Kaera survived the decimation of Cardassia Prime by being on a school field trip in a remote mountainous area during the final blitz. That senior class trip turned into a survival challenge as the group had to forage for supplies and find their way back home. They finally located vehicles to bring them to what remained of their home city, and found it a shambles, with few of the students having any surviving family. Kaera lived on the streets for months, eating whatever she could find and trading information (and sometimes her body) in order to stay alive. Eventually she was picked up by a medical unit sponsored by the Federation, and sent to a center for displaced persons. From there, she was offered the opportunity to resume her education, and either go off-planet or stay and help her people rebuild. Faced with the choice, Kaera decided to go off-planet. She spent six weeks completing her secondary certification, then applied for post-secondary scholarships. To her total amazement, one of the offers that came was from Starfleet Academy. Kaera attended the Academy for three years, completing a specialization in Communications And Research. Her near-photographic memory serves her well in this field. Upon completion of her certification, Kaera was commissioned as an Ensign and posted to the USS Avalon. Education: District 311 Primary School, Cardassia Prime District 92 Secondary School, Cardassia Prime Federation Secondary Education Equivalency, by correspondence Starfleet Academy, Specialist in Communications and Research Psychological Profile: Kaera Ashayu has adapted as well as can be expected to the extraordinary circumstances of her life. By her own admission, she may be subject to periods of melancholy. Ms. Ashayu is extremely intense in the execution of her duties. Perhaps in part due to this level of intensity, or to her racial background, she has made few friends during her tenure at the Academy. She states that she is not averse to friendships, but that the opportunities have not presented themselves. A more complete report is available for the ship's counselor and commanding officers.
