Attitude is a lateral thinking thing. We can all make a mistake and take the wrong attitude to a task, or to a person or a moment and we cant get the moment back. If you are bitter about your life, your first reaction will be that the other guy has done something wrong instead of thinking.... "Aha.........what's this all about?........ hmm ............ how very interesting it all is!" But no........ you fail the test........ again........and again ........ and again Being broke, and running up grocery bills on credit cards between jobs is not the end of the world, even if yet another bigoted incompetent unethical mentally retarded mollycoddled pretentious undeserving young arsehole gets the job that you should have got! Aaagh! and again AAAGH! or perhaps.you'd prefer.......aaaaA$%^*^%$%!?! Still I'm happy and grateful that I didn't get my arms and legs chopped off yesterday by some third world militia! It's a lovely day here in Melbourne, and the petunias are in full bloom. They help me learn about the person, not just their writing. I get a better idea if they will likely fit into our culture by how they react to being given a "mickey mouse" exercise. The more easy-going they are about it, the better they get on with others. I also look at what they write and have been surprised by the flair of some writers under test=20 conditions. I've hired great people and others that I've later regretted. My determining factor now is to go with my "gut instincts" and these annoying little tests tell me a lot about who they are, not just what they present themselves to be. If they don't 'get it' I don't want the job.=3D20=3D20 Here's a new business for unemployed technical writers - creating and selling downloadable test answers, small manuals etc suitable for job tests and interviews - for a fee of course.=3D20=3D20 ...my point being - who knows who has written and edited what? How many of you have taken beautiful manuals to interviews that were designed, written or edited by someone else? ck ************************************************** To post a message to austechwriter, send the message to austechwriter@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe to austechwriter, send a message to austechwriter-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with "subscribe" in the Subject field.
