Brian suggested dotted abbreves have fallen out of favour - I more or
less agree which is why I am asking for "seen in the wild" responses. I
dont care aboout A.B.C. abbreves, they fail nicely anyway. Its the Mjr.
Gen. Peter Cosgrove sorta stuff that worries me.

As for Erisa's excellent examples below, your surmise is correct, you
will always be able to trick the software using atrocious grammar :-)

1 Bad grammar, but remotely possible. If I fix 2) then one could always
"Off" or "On" it, but myself and many others use char styles which
negates this.

2 should be "Doctor". This highlights the problem with punctuation
inside or outside of punc marks. I'll have to address that one.

3 - I could test for all caps in the last word and let it slide if its >
2 chars long...

4 - Dots as leaders, not my problem but perfectly plucked :-)

Craig Hadden suggested "not followed by a lower case letter" - that's
possible in some cases, might be good for reducing false positives.
Sold!

He also suggested a 'mark anomalies' mode. This is a great idea, what I
could do is simply mark all periods failed in red highlight and passed
in green, user selectable presence of course. This way you can see
yourself with a quick glance where the errors lie and either recast or
manually re-adjust the provided figure.

Unless some .mil person chimes in with any that are used dotted
regularly, I think I'll leave it up to the user to populate the list
with their own "I know my dox have this in them." words and I'll just
stick with Mrs as the default.

I could even have each rule user selectable, so if you have no 2 char
abbreves you can skip that test and thusly pass Erisa's "Off and On".

I am thinking I'll include the double quote in the search pattern so
that it gets 'selected' onlong with our punc mark (DID I MISS ANY
SENTENCE TERMINATORS? UNICODE??? OTHER LANGUAGES???) and simply fail all
"end of sentence" catches of just quotes.

Examples that don't fit your sentence definitions.

The switch can be either Off or On.
People from the research dept should always be addressed as "Dr". When
the light turns red the foreman shouts "EVERYONE OUT!" For "Other Agent"
transfers you must enter the Agent Code in box
"A"........................turn to page 3. Not all grammar is correct
Agreed?
