Hi Judy
Let's hope the mail gets through this time. I would do as follows:
1. Navigate to the point where the bunch of surplus songs start.
2. Press shift-k to select to the end of the track.
3. Press control-x to cut the selection.
4. Press alt-t to open the Tracks Menu.
5. You will land on "Add new". Press Enter.
6. Assuming you are using stereo tracks, arrow down to Stereo track and
press Enter. That will create a new track and you will be placed on that
track and it will be selected.
7. Press j to move to the beginning of the track. Otherwise you will
be at the position where you were on the first track.
8. Press control-v to paste the songs.
To listen to just the freshly pasted material on the second track, press
shift-s to solo it. Shift-s is a toggle, so pressing again will unsolo (if
that's a word) it. Alternatively, shift-u mutes the current track.

Hi Andrew and everyone,
So I've inserted all my little silent 2 second spaces, labeled all my 15
songs and rearranged them in the order I like, but I now have a bunch of
songs at the end that I'd like to cut off and put on a new track. I tried
looking in the manual, and got kind of overwhelmed, so thought I'd ask
here!I'm not sure how to open a new track to paste these remaining songs
onto it. I tried several ideas that I thought seemed reasonable, but they
didn't seem to work.
Thanks for any step by step help. I know it's got to be simple!

Hi Judy
Before answering your question about inserting silence, did you sort out the
problems you were having after updating to Audacity 2.3? I sent a reply,
offering to help, and did not hear back from you. Have you checked whether
some messages are going to your junk mail? Could you confirm that this one
reaches you. If there is no reply in a day or so, I will send again.
Now to inserting silence.
1. Move the cursor to where you want to insert the silence.
2. Press alt-g to open the Generate menu.
3. Press s for silence (or arrow down to find out about other
features).
4. You will be offered a duration of silence to insert (I cannot
remember the default value). Adjust to the length of silence you want.
5. Either just press Enter or tab to OK and press enter.
The length of silence you inserted will be selected. Therefore, if you just
press spacebar to play you will not hear anything. To clear the selection,
press left arrow.

Happy Thanksgiving. I have a track of 10 songs, all very close to each
other, because I cut out all the talking in between. How do I now insert a
little space between each song?
