Hi Judy
Before answering your question about inserting silence, did you sort out the
problems you were having after updating to Audacity 2.3? I sent a reply,
offering to help, and did not hear back from you. Have you checked whether
some messages are going to your junk mail? Could you confirm that this one
reaches you. If there is no reply in a day or so, I will send again.
Now to inserting silence.
1. Move the cursor to where you want to insert the silence.
2. Press alt-g to open the Generate menu.
3. Press s for silence (or arrow down to find out about other
features).
4. You will be offered a duration of silence to insert (I cannot
remember the default value). Adjust to the length of silence you want.
5. Either just press Enter or tab to OK and press enter.
The length of silence you inserted will be selected. Therefore, if you just
press spacebar to play you will not hear anything. To clear the selection,
press left arrow.

Hi Everyone,
Happy Thanksgiving. I have a track of 10 songs, all very close to each
other, because I cut out all the talking in between. How do I now insert a
little space between each song?
