I had a conversation earlier with Ted about TeamTalk, and it sounds like that
getting a server up was indeed quite a hard game to play. I could join other
servers, but from what I know, if hosted by others it will cost me money,
something I hope to avoid doing, at least for now.
So I guess the only thing I can do, if I want to follow through with TeamTalk,
is to learn how to run a server. However I’m not sure if there are people smart
enough to help me go through this around here, as I’m not familiar with the
blind community online at this point, sorry!
Unles there are other simpler methods, I guess TeamTalk is my best bet, as
Skype might have a spotty connection, and Zoom can only record 40 minutes at a
time if there are more than 2 parties on the line. Messenger is OK, but when we
talked this morning, her voice sometimes goes a little muffled.

To add a little to Ted’s already quite detailed answers. I have very limited
(two sessions) experience with TeamTalk and even less knowledge. Initial setup
was a pain, largely because I followed a suggestion to install the portable
version. Joining a conference is easy provided you are given the relevant
info, but hosting requires setting up or having access to a server, which is
something I have not explored.
The sessions I participated in were in stereo and sound quality was very good –
I think better than Zoom in stereo. You could use TeamTalk facilities for
recording as Ted suggested. You could also record locally, but all speakers
would be in the one file.
Like Zoom, meetings can be set up to require a password. Also like Zoom, only
people who have the meeting details are likely to join anyway.
Oh, and when installing, be sure to check the accessibility checkbox.

Hmm, this sounds interesting. Then how is the sound quality on TeamTalk? Would
my sighted friends enjoy this platform? Can they record on their own or is it
better that I help them? Can this be just a private thing where it’s only them,
and or possibly I in this chat and noone else can join?

Well, I’m looking for a free platform with high audio quality. If the blind
community uses TeamTalk, then I guess the sound quality must be good!
I hope others in the list would chime in regarding this topic! I don’t mind
only recording with one track if my friends’ volume settings are consistent,
but it would be cool to have individual tracks for them!
I’m curious – will it go out of sync if I just align them together?

TeamTalk is used widely as a voice chat service for a lot of blind community.
It to has the capability of recording each person in the chat room on its own
separate file. This too is a viable option and without time limit. However, it
may be a little tricky getting set up. This is beyond my expertise, sorry. I do
know that you can set up the room to be either mono or stereo sound. Keep in
mind, though, stereo sound takes up twice the bandwidth both in the broadband
aspect and the file size aspect.

Since there will be three people on the call, your zoom session will be limited
to only 40 minutes. In the recording settings, you can set it to have a
separate recording for each person speaking on the call. This is especially
helpful if you want to put each person’s file into a separate track in
audacity. In other words, you have three files for three people speaking and it
takes up three tracks in audacity so that you may adjust volume for each of the
three tracks.

you could record using zoom but if it is not a paid zoom account you can only
record to people or if you require three people you are limited to 40 minutes.
You could also use Skype and record through there. The only drawback to Skype
is that as a post to zoom you will only have one audio file. Zoom will allow
you to have an audio file for each of the people on the call.

I could do all the set up and recording if needed, they would just need to call
in and be connected.
