What is your email address. I do have some questions about Total Recorder Pro.

Hi,
I use Total Recorder Pro, and have not had any issues with it. I have the
creator’s edition now for about 2 to 3 weeks. I can tell you, though, that
Total Recorder Pro is working. I mainly use it to record and edit and save
selections, is working fine for that.
I was experiencing a snap crackle pop on some recorded files, but got some good
advice from High Criteria support.
You are welcome to write me off-list about Total Recorder to see if there is
any way I can help.
Don’t worry about NVDA. It is very close to Jaws and very user friendly. I
did use NVDA and was successful with Audacity.
I also was not running the latest update to Audacity, though, so will try with
Jaws.
Hope all this helps.
Judy

Hi Judy and others,
I have been unable to use Audacity since Microsoft updated itself to the
Creators edition build 1703 three weeks ago.
I spent a total of 5 and a half hours (in two sessions) on the phone with the
Microsoft disability help desk as they remotely worked with my PC to try and
solve various problems I was having with the creators edition. In addition to
audacity not working properly, I could not use Word 2016.
Ultimately we had to disable Malware Bytes. Malware Bytes apparently has a
known conflict with the Creators Edition. After we did that, JAWS 18 and Word
2016 are playing nicely. However, when they also tested Audacity with the
Creators Edition, it kept crashing when JAWS is being used. Microsoft didn’t
have any suggestions about how to make Audacity, JAWS, and the Creators Edition
work together.
I have had to abandon using Audacity for the time being. I might need to learn
how to use NVDA if I want to keep using Audacity.
I thought I was going to switch to Total Recorder Pro, which works well for
recording, but when I got to using its editing functions, I found that it
couldn’t cut or delete selections. This was the same problem that I was having
with Word 2016. It sounds like another conflict with the Creators Edition of
Windows.
I sure don’t want to take time to learn to use another screen reader, but it
might be needed if I want to edit my files.
Audacity definitely has more powerful editing features than Total Recorder.
John

Hi, David,
The files are stereo.

Hi Judy,
could you check for each of the two sets of recordings, whether they are mono
or stereo?
If you open the context menu of a track by pressing shift+m, then if the track
is mono, then the mono item in the menu is checked, and if it's stereo, then
the mono item is unavailable.
thanks,
David.

Thanks loads!

Hi Judy,
I think it's unlikely that the conversion from mp4 to mp3 has anything directly
to do with it. More likely differences that might be affecting whether Audacity
crashes with Jaws running could be that some are mono and others are stereo, or
perhaps how long the recordings are.

Okay, thanks, I did find a solution though, and I am not sure why this is
happening.
Any mp4 files I have converted to mp3 crash Audacity, but the ones originally
recorded in MP3 do work.
Thanks.

Hi Judy,
as Ted has said, there's problem running Audacity with Jaws on the Windows 10
creators update. I don't know what the problem is yet - there doesn't appear to
be a problem running Audacity with either NVDA or Window-eyes. So for the
moment, if you want to use Jaws you'll have to roll back to the previous
version. You have ten days after the update to do this easily.
I would encourage you to let Freedom Scientific know that there is a problem
running Audacity on the creators update. If you do this, it would be very
helpful if you could report back any response that you get. As far as I'm
aware, this is the first time there has been such a serious problem with
Audacity and Jaws.
thanks,
David.

Greetings,
I am glad to have found this list and hope I can get help.
Just recently, the program crashes when attemptingto open files. I have
uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted, still the same issue, and I don’t know
what has brought it on. No major changes to the laptop either. I am using
Jaws and running Windows 10. I did just update to the creater version, but
have successfully used Audacity since then.
Any advice is appreciated.
