Actually, it wasn’t this list you were asked to stop advertising on in my
recollection.
That said, I think it is important that you get as much spending money as you
need or want. I think you can provide valuable information and should be
compensated for the help you give.
I think it’s important that you don’t lure people into meeting privately when
you know that they need help. And I think that it is important that you are
up-front with people who do meet with you privately regarding your financial
situation and expectations. Not everyone looks at your email signature that
explicitly asks for financial donations to your ABLE account.
I think you might find yourself getting compensated more frequently if you
provide quick and public tutorials on a platform like YouTube. Maybe you could
consider it a marketing expense? You can offer help to lots of folks who need
it and I, as one human, appreciate your expertise. The more you give the more
you get, IMHO.
Peace,
David

It was requested that I stopped advertising services for Compensation on this
list and I did exactly that, stop. I do, however, advertise on buy, sell, trade
lists, yes. I live in a nursing home and money is always extremely tight. The
audio editing that I do buy in large is a hobby and I do things for free, but
getting a little bit of spending money is nice too, every once in a while.

Curious if you know how long the introduction is going to be? Did you create
the introduction in another Audacity project? If so, you can select all tracks
in the project you want to add the introduction to, move to the beginning of
the selected tracks, and then add silence for that known length. Add a new
track to the project, select only that track, and paste your introduction audio
into that new track.
It’s not difficult to do but it does take practice. I’m happy to outline the
keyboard only steps here on the list if you are interested.
One thing that took me a while to realize with Audacity is that, if I get a
specific audio clip how I like it, then I need to save it. Having multiple
Audacity projects open at once is not uncommon for me. Although it should be
noted that 2.4.x versions of Audacity prior to 2.4.2 will not work as expected
with the Audacity scriptset. There was a bug in Audacity that was fixed as of
2.4.2 and the most recent version of the JAWS scriptset for Audacity.
If you prefer someone walk you through the steps then someone like Ted could
help. Note, however, that I don’t think all of his help is given without some
sort of expected monetary reward.
Personally I’ve seen Ted asking for payment on other lists – not saying he’s
doing it now, but it might be worth exercising a little caution if you aren’t
prepared to supplement his help with a monetary reward.
I think offering personalized help for technical information is great and
should be rewarded monetarily. I do think, however, that offering personalized
technical help for an open source project like Audacity should probably remain
free. That’s the beauty of a listserv like this one and of open source projects
in general.
Peace,
David

Subject: [audacity4blind] Inserting new section into a track
Hi All,
Yes it’s me again!!
Thank you so much to those of you who responded to my earlier post about
editing a track and adding audio from one track to another – I think I’m
getting there slowly but surely and at least have been able to edit two tracks.
I would now like to be able to insert some audio into the beginning of each
track i.e. an intro to what will be the main podcast audio – what’s the best
way of doing this?
I have tried just recording at the start of a track but when I play it back the
newly recorded segement doesn’t appear to be there. Do I need to record the
intro section as a new track and then cut and paste it into the main track ?
As ever any help greatuflly received.
With thanks in advance
Sarah
