 Hi Billy,

 1. To set Audacity to not hear the track you're recording, open
preferenced control+p, open the file i/o control tab. Unselect the
"software playthrough: hear track while recording it". I don't know if
that will help your computer problem, but it will eliminate hearing the
recorded signal through the output jack of your sound card.

2. Audacity can convert audio files to mp3 format but you first need to
install the Lame encoder - have you done this? Audacity cannot burn to CD,
you need separate CD-burning software to do this. To preverve sound
fidelity, it is _much_ preferable to burn using .wav files - .mp3 files
are compressed, so information gets discarded. Unless of course you don't
mind and simply want to stuff lots of tunes onto a single CD.
