What version of Windows are you using? If you are using Vista or higher, open the Windows volume control while audacity is playing. Even if you don't hear any audio, if you issue the correct play command, it will be playing, you just won't hear audio. To make sure you are in the same place as I am describing, open the volume control in this way:
Open the run dialog. type sndvol and press enter.Once the volume control opens, tab around until you find audacity in the volume control settings. See what the settings are. Is the mute check box checked? Is the volume level correct?
I have very seldom worked directly with settings of this sort in Audacity itself so I won't discuss how that might be done.
But if whatever you did changed the Windows volume control settings to cause the problem, my instructions may help you find and correct the problem even without knowing just what to look for in Audacity.

Even with other recordings Audacity keeps quiet when I press the spacebar to listen.I want to delete the long silences during the recording streaming from theinternet.
