This should only happen if the setting "select all audio, if selection
required" is enabled - which is in the track behaviors section of
preferences.
Can you confirm that this is the case?
thanks,
David.

Hi Greg
I was about to say that my tutorials are not on YouTube, but I think
someone on the List put them there with my permission. To your issues:
1. Moving in small and larger increments. Shift-a does not do
anything that I can find. Fullstop and comma jump forwards and backwards
by one second by default. Shift-fullstop and shift-comma move by 15
seconds. Another option is scrubbing forwards and backwards with I and u
respectively. Zooming in (control+1), zooming normal (control+2) and
zooming out (control+3) will adjust the scrub rate. Multiple presses of
control+1 and control+3 will continue to zoom in and out respectively.
2. Pressing k should take you to the end of the selected track, not
necessarily to the end of the project. If you are only working with one
track though, that is a moot point. Which version of Audacity are you
using? I previously thought, perhaps incorrectly, that the track had to be
selected for j (beginning of track) and k (end of track) to work. With
version 3.2.3 with only one track in the project, pressing either of those
keys when the track is not selected toggles selection on. Just in case,
pressing Enter on the track will toggle selection on and off. As a
bytheway, it is worth going to Keyboard in Preferences (control+p) and
tabbing until reaching the Defaults button. Pressing spacebar will allow
you to select between standard and full. Arrow to full and press Enter
(there is no notification of which one is set). Then tab to ok to close
Preferences.
3. I suspect you are in the top section when encountering buttons.
The lower section largely consists of combo boxes. Like you, I assumed
spacebar would work. However, on checking just now I found that Enter is
needed. After all that, most of them are not terribly useful with the
screen reader.
Let us know how you get on with the k key, and anything else.
Andrew

Andrew, I watched your demos on YouTube and they were excellent. I'm
having trouble, however, with a few of the keyboard shortcuts. I can use
the right arrow key to move in very small increments through a recording. I
thought I could use Shift/A to move in larger increments but that is not
working for me. I'm also not having luck using the "k" key to move to the
end of my audio file. And third and final (for now), there are times, maybe
after I've been in the lower section on the Audacity window, that I hear
which buttons are turned on/off when I press the arrow keys. For example, I
hear "Select" on. I thought these would act like radio buttons and I could
press the Spacebar to turn them on/off. That doesn't work. Suggestions?
Thanks to all for help.

Hi Greg
I will expand a little on Bob's response. As Bob said, pressing r will
start recording. Pressing r again will recommence recording from the end
of the currently selected track.
You mentioned that you saved the file. Did you save as an Audacity
project or export, for example, to a wav or mp3 file? I strongly suggest
saving as an Audacity project while working on the material.
If you have not discovered it already, this Guide to Audacity
<https://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-3.1.0-Guide.html>
written by David Bales for screen reader users is a great resource. If you
want some audio tutorials on using Audacity, I have done several on this
page <https://1drv.ms/u/s!AqaMwQC-taeGmBi3PWiV3EnNPCjK?e=wxof8t>.
Filenames are reasonably meaningful.
And do not hesitate to ask questions here as issues arise.

Subject: [audacity4blind] Adding audio to a file that has been saved
I'm new to Audacity, using JAWS on a PC. I have recorded the first 5
minutes of a demo and saved the file. I want to open the file and continue
recording from the end point. How do I do that? Thanks.
